Montana Forest Restoration Committee
Restoring Montana's Forests - A New Approach

On-the-Ground Overview

One of the key goals of the Montana Forest Restoration Committee is to work with the Forest Service to implement ecologically-sound restoration projects in a timely manner. Two years into implementation of the Principles, we have eight projects approved or under review by the three restoration committees.

The Bitterroot Restoration Committee is currently working on two projects, Butterfly Creek and the Darby Lumber Lands.

The Lincoln Restoration Committee, located on the Helena National Forest, is looking at a 1200 acre area to design and implement restoration projects.

Finally, the Lolo Restoration Committee is engaged with five different projects on four ranger districts – Auggie Fuels, Center Ridge, South Fork Fish Creek, Cedar-Thom and Marshall-Woods. One of those, Auggie, is through the Record of Decision and implementation will begin in 2010.
